Merry Murderous Mayhem for Christmas

Well it is the Christmas Season and our thoughts often turn to murder and mayhem. Amazingly enough mystery writers recognize this fact and there are many fine novels as well as short story collections; set during the holiday season. If you believe this is a recent occurrence in literature, then you might want to consider reading a few from an earlier time. For your reading pleasure consider, “Hercule Poirot’s Christmas” (DB044355) by Agatha Christie or “Maigret’s Christmas” (DB039388) by Georges Simenon. While staying on the other side of the Atlantic, listen to “A Rumpole Christmas” (DB070878) by John Mortimer.

If you are wondering if American authors can crank out an enjoyable Christmas mystery, the answer is yes! Starting in the South pick up “Nora Bonesteel’s Christmas Past” (DB080354) by Sharyn McCrumb. Heading up the east coast enjoy “Manhattans and Murder: A Murder, She Wrote Mystery” (DB060587) by Donald Bain. Stopping in California, read “The 19th Christmas” (DB096863) by James Patterson.

Finally, if your appetite for holiday crime has not been satisfied, consider taking on “The Big Book of Christmas Mysteries” (DB080443) edited by Otto Penzler. This last one is a collection of 59 stories by authors as diverse as Arthur Conan Doyle, Ellery Queen, Ed McBain and Sara Paretsky.

Enjoy your holiday season by downloading one of the books above or any on your wish list! Merry Reading!-Allen
